What Are Limiting Beliefs?
When you hear the term “limiting beliefs,” it’s easy to think of them as something negative. But limiting beliefs are neither positive nor negative — they just exist in our brains. Everyone has limiting beliefs, for different reasons, in various areas of their lives, and at different stages of life. They are simply a part of who we are. Limiting beliefs are general truths or specific ideas that we all have about what we’re capable of or how the world works. The problem is when those general truths or specific ideas (i.e., our limiting beliefs) stop us from doing things that would improve our lives. Limiting beliefs aren’t necessarily bad; they just become troublesome when they limit us from achieving things we want in life.
